On Friday 23rd Oct 2009, we received the sad news that Shiloh Pepin passed away, due to an infection. She was an inspirational young girl who touched the hearts of many, always remaining positive in the face of adversity.

Firecracker goes Global

Surviving Bear Island

British cameraman Richard Terry will be spending the summer on his own in the Alaskan wilderness with a Swiss man who is obsessed with the dangerous Kodiak Grizzly Bears. Commissioned by Animal Planet in both the US and UK this follows the success of the Stranger Among Bears series which also featured Terry living with wild bears.

The Autistic Me

Firecracker continues to nurture new talent with First Cut director Matt Rudge. After his successful first film, ‘My Dad The Serial Killer’ for C4, Matt has just completed his first full 1×60 for BBC Fresh, which looks at the lives of 3 young men with Aspergers Syndrome. The Radio Times describe this as an “excellent documentary”.

Mermaid Recommission

TLC have commissioned a sequel to The Mermaid Girl which was one of their highest rating programmes of 2008. The new film will follow Shiloh Peppin who was born with an extremely rare condition known as Mermaid Syndrome as she approaches a landmark birthday doctors told her family she would never reach.

New Head of Programmes

Jes Wilkins has joined Firecracker as our first Head of Programmes. Jes has a wealth of experience under his belt making high rating and critically acclaimed docs and series for broadcasters in the UK and US. He will be Exec Producing many of our upcoming projects, working with broadcasters to bring in new commissions and helping to expand our brand . Great to have him on the team. Exciting times ahead!

Sterimar

Firecracker were commissioned by Sterimar to shoot 2 x 30sec viral ads for their nasal spray product. It was shot on a freezing cold beach in Cornwall, with 2 mansized nose costumes. It was a crazy shoot, but all turned out as planned. And pretty funny too!

Alesha: Look But Don’t Touch

Having managing to secure Alesha Dixon, hot of the success of winning BBC1’s ‘Strictly Come Dancing’, this film follows her as part of BBC3’s acclaimed ‘Beauty’ Season. Screened recently on BBC Three, ‘Alesha: Look But Don’t Touch’ has gone down a storm with the critics.

Mermaid Girl

Mermaid Girl (US title) performed really well on TLC, just as it did on Five. Discovery tell us it was the highest rated special for women aged 25-54. Great news.

Stranger Among Bears

Following the success of The Man Who Lives With Bears, Animal Planet has commissioned a 6part series to follow Charlie Vandegraw for a whole summer, in what may well be his last summer in Bear Haven – his retreat in the Alaskan wilderness. Cameraman Richard Terry has been chosen to go live with Charlie (and all the bears) for the whole 6months.
