Firecracker Films is reopening the doors to The Sex Clinic for a second series on E4.
The series sees a team of Sexperts lift the lid on young people’s sex lives, by answering their questions and offering a full sexual MOT to anyone who walks through the doors of their one-stop clinic. With Sexually Transmitted Infections on the rise and half of all young people admitting to not using condoms with first time partners, there has never been a better time to visit The Sex Clinic.
The programming started life as a series of online shorts titled ‘Sex Testers’ on All4 in 2017 before moving to E4 for a full series in where it performed strongly, up versus the timeslot average share of both individual viewers (+20%) and E4’s target 16-34 demographic (+42%).
The recommission was announced by E4 Controller Karl Warner, as part of his plan to add “texture” to E4’s slate by evolving its factual tone. He said The Sex Clinic is an example of 16-34s’ increased appetite for programming with an educational element. “Don’t underestimate young people. They don’t only want to watch celebrities and shagging,” he said. “They care about the wider world around them and we want to reflect that, while still feeling fun and not too worthy.”
Sam Emmery, Firecracker Films Head of Documentaries , says, “The Sex Clinic is a great cocktail of mischievous entertainment and educational public service broadcasting. It is tailor-made for the E4 audience. I’m delighted that it launched so strongly on the channel earlier this year and can’t wait to throw open the doors to the clinic again”
The core medical team - Consultant Naomi, Nurse Sarah and Health Advisor Kevin – are all returning to duty, and along with the clinic’s the team of ‘sexperts’ they are on hand to answer any questions, provide instant STI results, and give treatment and advice.
It was recommissioned by E4’s Formats Commissioning Editor Lee McMurray. The series is produced by Firecracker Films with Joe Ward as Series Producer and Jes Wilkins and Sam Emmery serving as Executive Producers.
