Jamie: Drag Queen At 16 - BBC Three

Inspirational documentary about the boy who wanted to attend his school prom in drag.

SYNOPSIS

Growing up gay in an ex-mining village in County Durham, Jamie Campbell had already faced his fair share of difficulties. Now at 16, he decides he is ready to share his true passion with the world... by attending his school prom in drag.

Heart-breakingly, he doesn't get the reaction he'd hoped for from either his school or his own father. Battling his demons and faced with difficult decisions, Jamie spends time with an established drag artist and performs as his alter ego, Fifi La True, for the very first time in front of a large audience.

But will Fifi get to go to the prom? Will Jamie finally gain the acceptance he craves from his peers and the confidence to be who he really is?

Originally commissioned as part of a BBC Three season of programmes about young people with amazing stories to tell, Jamie: Drag Queen At 16 subsequently inspired the award-winning West End musical Everybody's Talking About Jamie.
